An early and fine copy (in reduced format) of Lawrence’s portrait of 1822 in the Wallace Collection. A painting was delivered to George IV from Lawrence’s studio on 28 January 1830 described as a ‘small whole length of his Majesty’, which might be this work. The Prince sits on a sofa, in a black frock coat with a fur collar; he wears the star of the Order of the Garter and the badge and ribbon of the Order of the Golden Fleece; his hat and gloves rest with some loose papers on the sofa beside him, a landscape is seen through an archway behind.ProvenancePurchased by Queen Victoria in 1899
