The most famous image of Henry VIII is that painted by Hans Holbein as part of the Tudor family group on the wall of the Privy Chamber at Whitehall Palace. Although the mural was destroyed in a fire in 1698, a number of copies survive, including this depiction of the King. The unknown artist has added a red cushion in the foreground, on which Henry rests his hands.
