A "Jumeau" fashion doll, "Marianne", with porcelain head and jointed limbs, fixed, brown curly hair and moveable blue eyes, painted lips, eyebrows and pierced ears. With gold identity bracelet with French flag in enamel and stamped "Marianne".
This doll, and its sister France (RCIN 93160) form a famous pair of dolls, made at the internationally renowned Jumeau Factory in Paris. They were presented in 1938, on behalf of the Children of France, to the Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. The dolls were accompanied by a trousseau of over 200 items, including clothes, shoes, hats, jewellery, gloves and luggage. The trousseau was specially made by the most famous fashion houses in Paris and represents, in miniature, the finest of French 1930s haute couture.
The trousseau includes jewellery by Cartier, fans by Duvelleroy, evening dresses by Madeleine Vionnet and Jeanne Lanvin, daytime dresses by Jean Patou, Marcel Rochas and Paquin, gloves and handbags by Hermès, lingerie by Maggy Rouff and Aux Mille et Une Nuits, stationery by Maquet, tea cups and saucers by Sèvres, as well as hats, shoes, scarves, nightwear, umbrellas and a car made by Citroen.Provenance
