The Queen’s Gallery has now become The King’s Gallery.
This information will help you plan your visit to The King's Gallery at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Visitor Information
You can visit The King’s Gallery at your leisure using the complimentary multimedia guide which lasts approximately 1 hour.
Security and Luggage

Visitors and their belongings may be subject to security checks.
Luggage and restricted items
Neither smoking nor vaping (the use of electronic cigarettes) are permitted anywhere in The King's Gallery.
A cloakroom is available for any large bags or items. Backpacks may not be worn. Handbags and small backpacks are permitted inside, but must be carried by your side and not worn on your back during your visit.
Pushchairs can be taken inside the Gallery, except during busy periods. If you are required to leave your pushchair, a designated drop-off area is available.
As the Palace of Holyroodhouse is a working royal palace, security and opening arrangements may be subject to change at short notice.
Photography, filming & mobile phones
Photography for personal, non-commercial purposes is permitted inside the Gallery.
Applications for commercial filming should be submitted through this application form.
Out of consideration to other visitors, we ask that you go out of the exhibition space into the foyer if you need to make or answer a phone call.
Multimedia Guides
Enhance your experience at the Gallery with our free multimedia guide, available in English, including commentary from our experts and special insights into the exhibition. You are welcome to use your own standard wired headphones if you prefer.
Written versions of the multimedia guide are available in Plain English.
Exhibition catalogue
If you’d rather not use one of our free multimedia guides or are looking for a book to accompany your visit and take home to enjoy, please consider purchasing the accompanying exhibition catalogue which is sold online as a part of your ticket purchase to pick up on the day of your visit. The catalogue is also available from admissions areas and shops on arrival, or from our online shop. Every purchase helps support the charitable aims of Royal Collection Trust.
Refreshments
Eating and drinking are not permitted inside The King’s Gallery. You will be asked to place drinks and food in closed bags before being admitted. Refreshments are available at the Café at the Palace.
Visiting with children
Toilets are located in the Gallery. Baby-care facilities are available in the Café at the Palace.
Pushchairs can be taken inside the Gallery, except during busy periods. If you are required to leave your pushchair, a dedicated drop-off area is available. Baby carriers and hip seats are available on request. All other personal belongings cannot be left and must be carried for the duration of your visit.
Breastfeeding is welcome anywhere within the Palace of Holyroodhouse and The King's Gallery.

Toilets are located in the Gallery. Baby-care facilities are available in the Café at the Palace.
1-Year Pass
Enjoy free re-admission for a year by converting your ticket to a 1-Year Pass. At the end of your visit, don’t forget to ask a Warden to stamp your ticket to convert it into a 1-Year Pass.
